Global Moot 2025 (part 1)
Partners' day & Global Moot day 1

Hi there! Welcome to the 2025 Global Moot recap, brought to you by Eummena!

Now that we started off with a TV-like intro, let’s dive into what we experienced in this year’s Global Moot, that took place a couple of weeks ago, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

One year ago, the Moodlers of the world had met in Merida, Mexico somewhat far for most of us on this side of Europe. Nonetheless, it was an event filled with energy and great discussions amongst partners and attendees alike.

Well, Edinburgh was just the same! We had the pleasure of spending almost a week, surrounded by people that love Moodle and education as much as we do, exchange opinions with them and discuss our joint future.

What walking to the Moot venue each day looked like

#Day 1

Our first day, as usual, was a day for Moodle Partners. A meeting held in an undisclosed location (!), where we had the chance to meet with colleagues from Moodle HQ and discuss everything that lies ahead, but also reflect on our strategy and joint efforts.

Unfortunately we can’t share a lot from this day, as most of the things we discuss in these meetings, stay behind closed doors, but what we can share is that great things are coming very soon, on all different fronts. From Moodle LMS, to Moodle Workplace, but also other parts/services of the Moodle ecosystem. Stay tuned!

Day 1, ended after a long stretch of discussions, with a lovely event at a local pub (of course), with lots of tap beer, great food and amazing music from a local band.

#Day 2

Day 2, was actually day 1 of the Global Moot. Or as I call it every year, “the crazy day”. We took our morning coffee in a hurry and we arrived at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, just on time for the registration. We arrived to what felt like a game day in some Scottish Premier League match or sth. The place was packed with people waiting to get their badges (albeit in an orderly manner), buzzing with discussions, filled with warm welcomes and hugs all over, between Moodlers that haven’t seen each other since the last year’s event.

C R A Z Y 😄

After we got our IDs, we took the stairs to the Pentland room at the top floor, to attend the keynote from Scott Anderberg, Moodle’s CEO. Scott gave a very interesting talk that started off with a reflection on the history of EdTech and the position of Moodle in this landscape. It was a great way to open the day, in a packed auditorium with a high level of excitement from everyone in attendance.

After the keynote, all the Eummenas that were attending the event took their separate ways, so that we could cover as much ground as possible. We wanted to see as many different sessions as possible, and that we did. One interesting case was the session “Powering the future: Transforming apprenticeship training with Moodle Workplace”. In this session, we discovered how JTL Group, a leading not-for-profit training provider for the building services engineering sector, is empowering over 8,000 apprentices across England and Wales with Moodle Workplace.

For the next session, we stayed at the same room, to watch “Automating compliance-based training using non-standard Moodle”. In this session we saw how a multi-tenant Moodle variant addresses the needs for compliance training by introducing data archiving features, saving enrolment and completion records for automated recertification. It also supports organizational hierarchical divisions, enabling the delegation of administrative tasks, including reporting, at both site-wide and per-tenant levels.

For the evening sessions, we attended “Beyond the mark: Automating assessment quality assurance in Moodle” where we had the chance to see how automated workflows in Moodle can streamline internal moderation, external verification, blind marking, marker allocation, grade reconciliation, and audit trails—making assessment more consistent, accountable, and defensible at scale.

Lastly, for the sessions of the day, before we headed to the Moodle Awards ceremony, we “witnessed” an amazing and captivating presentation from Frédéric Harper from TinyMCE, on “Supercharge Moodle Course Design with TinyMCE Premium Tools”. Personally, this was my favourite presentation of the Moot, in terms of audience engagement and pace. Brilliant.

Day 1 of the Global Moot, did have one last thing to cap off this amazing experience. The Moodle Partner awards. These awards are being given out by Moodle HQ annually, in recognition of the amazing efforts of Moodle Partners and Certified Integrators, to promote Moodle and to help Moodle grow. Up to this year, we’ve been fortunate enough to claim two awards. One for our Branded Moodle App work, in 2022 and one award for the Moodle Education Contributor of the Year in 2024.

And this year, we tripled them! Yaaaayyyy! Eummena was awarded the Branded Moodle App award for a second time. This was our third award in a four-year span, and it filled us with pride for our entire team and their tireless efforts to serve our clients. As we continue to grow, we can only hope that we can repeat this feat, and why not, claim even more awards apart from the ones we have already been awarded!

Thanks Moodle HQ!
